Germany will get a worldwide unique centre for pathogen research: the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB). A few days ago, the ground-breaking ceremony for the 50-million-euro research building took place at DESY; starting in 2016, viruses, bacteria and parasites in particular will be analysed on the molecular level using X-ray radiation. The aim is to first unveil their attack mechanisms and then design tailor-made medication. CUI as well as the Centre for Free-Electron Laser Science will be closely linked to the CSSB.
