Exchanging Ideas during Annual Meeting

Get together and exchange ideas – that was the main aim of the first Annual Meeting at the end of March in the CFEL-seminar rooms. After four months work, the research groups could present first results and let their colleagues from the other CUI-projects participate. The chosen format of poster sessions supported the concept of an informal exchange: In the beginning, the researchers in charge gave a quick presentation of their results, and then discussed  specific questions in small groups.

Each group had prepared a poster which they presented simultaneously with the other groups of the same research area. After the three rounds on A: Imaging and Control of Quantum Systems, B: Atomically Resolved Structural Dynamics and C: Dynamics of Order Formation on the Nanoscale, as member of the Board Dr. Melanie Schnell presented the topic of equal opportunity. Among others, the focus in this field is on families in CUI and in general the declining number of female researchers in Physics and Chemistry after obtaining the doctorate as well as possible counter measures. Finally, Prof. Dr. Peter Schmelcher presented the interdisciplinary concept of the graduate school.

During lunch in the foyer, the “CUIans” continued to exchange ideas.
