The World’s Most Influential Scientists

WellerCUI spokesman Prof. Horst Weller is among the world’s most influential scientific minds, as compiled by the publisher Thomson Reuters.

Based on its “Web of Science,” which consists of several online citation databases, the publishers made a list of the most-cited scientists. Thereby, they evaluated the top one percent of the most cited publications in the natural sciences, social sciences, and medicine from 2002 to 2012. It is exactly this type of recognition – the frequency after which a researcher is cited by his or her colleagues – which is considered the key factor for measuring the influence of a scientific publication and the author’s reputation in his or her field.

The list “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” where Prof. Weller is listed in the Chemistry category includes 3,215 scientists from 21 fields of research. “These individuals are influencing the future direction of their fields, and of the world,” it is said in the introduction to the report.

Prof. Weller received his postdoctoral qualification from the TU Berlin; since 1994 he is a professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of Universität Hamburg. Since 2012 Prof. Weller is one of three speakers of the research cluster “The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging” (CUI).

“Of course Horst Weller is among the most influential scientists in chemistry in the world – we have known that for years; it is fantastic, that he has received the official award now, as it is based on a very convincing basis of valuation. Congratulations to him,” says CUI-spokesperson Prof. Klaus Sengstock.
