CUI is now calling for applications for the Louise Johnson Fellowship: The award which was initiated within the framework of CUI’s equal opportunity program offers a two year employment to a female postdoc to do research within one of CUI’s research groups. Employment is possible from fall 2015 on; deadline for the submission of applications is 15 May 2015.
The Fellowship was set up in honor of Dame Louise Johnson (University of Oxford) who passed away at the end of 2012. The renowned professor of Molecular Biophysics and pioneer of protein crystallography had an international outstanding reputation as expert in the exploitation of synchrotron radiation for biological research. Fascinated by CUI’s interdisciplinary research program, she had planned to cooperate – however, unfortunately she couldn’t realize her intention.
At the beginning of the year 2015, the first Louise Johnson Fellow, chemist Dr. Amanda Steber started working for CUI. In an interview with Max Planck research group leader Dr. Melanie Schnell the scientist from the University of Virginia described her plans for the time she will spend at CUI: She is very interested in melding her work in spectroscopy with a cause for the greater good, and thinks that this fellowship is that chance. Steber: “This fellowship is an achievement for me. I have always had some doubt about my place in the scientific community – but when I read about this fellowship and the woman behind it, it felt like the right path.”
