High Level Graduate Days

About 80 scientists met for the fourth CUI Graduate Days on Campus Bahrenfeld, exchanged the current state of research and attended the extensive program including courses and talks.

This year, the program again covered four days, whereby the first three days were only addressed to science. Day four was reserved for soft skill courses, which were again highly appreciated by the participants. “The talks are very exciting for me and I am particularly looking forward towards the soft skill courses”, Wentao Zhang, PhD candidate from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, said. He attended the Graduate Days for the first time. Zhang: “I have been in Hamburg since October and I was welcomed very friendly everywhere. My coordinator recommended this great event to me.”

In addition to a wide range of talks by international scientists, CUI’s research coordinator, Dr. Hans Behringer, gave his first talk during the Graduate Days. He held a lecture course about “Introduction to molecular dynamics simulations.” Prof. Elspeth Garman from the University of Oxford (UK) and Mildred Dresselhaus Guest Professor 2015 gave insights into the history of crystallography. Another highlight was the industry event with Dr. Marc Robaszkiewicz, Dr. Kiran Shekhar and Dr. Kathleen Schubert (NXP Semiconductors from Hamburg) who spoke about “NXP Semiconductors – Secure Connections for a Smarter World.”

“I especially appreciate the good organization of this year’s Graduate Days,” says Dr. Antonio Negretti, coordinator of the graduate school. “The level of speakers and invited guests was once again very high.”
